The Penn State Alumni Association

What’s been happening:

I taught science in the Upper Darby, PA School District for 35 years. I am married to John J. Hurt who is a professor and chairman of the Department of History at the University of Delaware. I have two stepchildren,Charles and Christi, and four grandchildren. We live near West Chester, PA, and our children live in Seattle and Chapel Hill, NC. I have been retired for 8 years now, and I volunteer teaching English to newly-arrived immigrants. My husband and I have spent several semesters with his students in Paris, and we also travel quite a bit to other parts of Europe and within the United States. I enjoy fitness workouts, swimming, attending the Philadelphia Orchestra, and time with family and friends. My favorite memory of Penn State is all of the time spent hanging out with classmates in the dorms, especially in Atherton freshman year. I loved the crisp fall weather and the football game excitement. I remember the "Penn State stride" which we all used to rush from one end of campus to another to make it to class in twenty minutes. Of course, there's the creamery, the fraternity parties starting with doing the frug and ending with Johnny Mathis, the chemistry labs we almost blew up, and ornithology class where we bird-watched early on Saturday mornings! I have wonderful memories of dear old State.
